Hair Update: The products I've been abusing! =)

Hey everyone! So this is an update on my hair and the products I've been using. Although this is not a basic review I have seen some positive and negative results from these products. Some of these products have helped my hair, while others have not. However, I am definitely not discouraging any of you from trying these products, for what have not worked for me may very well work for you, these are my personal experiences and views on the products.
Until a month ago I have been using the Maxi Professional Carrot Oil. Why? Because it costed TT$12.00, I ran out of a moisturizer and the expert over the counter told me it was a good product. I enrolled this product into my nightly routine sealing it with my ever so faithful Coconut Oil but  my hair felt heavy, dry and not even close to the promise of moisturized. I continued this experiment for two month with no change until I was finally convinced that THIS WAS NOT THE PRODUCT FOR ME.

Eventually, after accepting defeat, I returned to my beauty supply store and purchased the popular Organics Root Stimulator Moisturizing Lotion. For the past month I have been moisturizing with this product and have seen some amazing results. I still can't put my finger on it, but although both these products have a thick consistency the ORS Lotion have done wonders. My new growth feels soft and moiturized and my hair remains light after the application.

Usually, though, I use this product in coordination with the Mega Growth Break Free Daily Leave In Strengthener. This has also been a  great product that I have invested in and continue to repurchase. This however is a MAJOR protein product and I use it with great caution. I have also seen major new growth with the use of this product and credit this product for assisting with my current achievement of armpit  length hair.
Just like my moisturizing lotions I coordinate my deep conditioners. I continue to use the Mega Growth Deep Conditioner once a month and use the Dr. Miracles Damaged Hair Medicated Treatment which tingles with awesomness (lol). The use of these two deep conditioners have allowed me to see a major difference with my hair. The only difference however is the discontinued use of my Motions Conditioner and the introduction of the Motions CPR Treatment Shampoo. It smells amazing and leave my hair squeaky clean :) which is great because I deep condition immediately after.

As usual I am new to this hair topic and I am thinking about changing my relaxer. I believe that my hair dresser has been using Optimum No Lye relaxer, but I have been doing research via YouTube and Google and have heard great reviews on the Organics Roots Stimulator Lye Relaxer . I am not afraid to use the ORS brand but I am a little hessitant on using Lye relaxer. Whats the difference between Lye and No Lye though? I still have to consult my hair stylist but your views on the topic means alot to me! So please....Whats your view on Lye Relaxer. Let me know. Leave your comments. :)

Hair Update: Your Help is Needed and would be greatly Appreciated :)

Hello my beauties!!! :) It is time for an update. So exams is over and the vacation has officially begun (can you scream YAYY!!!!) My hair and I have bonded even more and I have some really great reviews for you all so stay tuned! That was actually why I haven't been posting regularly, I finally got the time to put away the text books and pull out the hair supplies :) As most of you who've read my previous post know that I upgraded from shoulder length (SL) to arm-pit length (APL) and I was so very excited and proud of myself. I am presently 10 weeks and 1 day post relaxer and my goal is to reach 20 weeks, this would be my longest stretch yet and my aim is to reach bra-strap length (BSL) by that time. Today I trimmed my ends to prevent split ends, the second time since my April's trim and I have approximately 1 inch of hair growth, so much that my new growth is coiling beautifully. I am embracing my new growth and treating them tenderly (lol) conditioning and moisturizing my scalp as I try to avoid disturbing the line of demarcation (if many of you do not know of this term, I am more than willing to dedicate a post based on the term an ways to avoid breakage along this line).

I however am very keen for your assistance and knowledge PLEASE. See I am in the process of deciding whether I should highlight my hair or not. Problem....my hair is naturally dark brown to black and many people have informed me that I would have to strip my hair with bleach aka weakening my hair resulting in major breakage in the long run. However I'm Google's BIGGEST FAN an so your girl decided to search dyes that contain no bleach, ammonia or hydrogen peroxide and I came across Garnier Nutrisse Ultra Color and Clairol Professional Textures and Tones. I am contemplating on highlighting my hair because this could either make or break (literally) my hair. So I ask for your assistance. Am I insane for even thinking about such a transition? Do YOU know or have tried any reliable brand of hair color/dye? I've wanted a change for a long time and I'm still deciding on whether or not this would be the right one.

These are the dyes and colors I'm interested in for highlights.

Your assistance and advice would be greatly appreciated :) and NEW product updates are currently in progress.

Blame school for keeping me away from you =( : My Recent Update

Wow....checking my blog today and I just realised that it's been ONE MONTH since I last posted *gasp* lolzz. On a serious note however...I am extremely sorry I have been M.I.A for so long. Exams is nearing, project deadlines are nearing and I am trying to stay on top of everything. I've also joined my school's dance group and drama club so I'm getting my little extra curricular thang goin' one =). Hmm...another thing that I'm sortta proud of is that I'm the newly appointed Secretary for my school's Student Council. You might be like..."Ok....Secretary... that's exciting?" but for me it is!!! =D See, I'm an extremely shy person, so even running for the position and knowing a colleague (who I must say is very popular) is campaigning for the same position, it was very challenging. However, I made a secret resolution with myself for this year (2012) which was to come out of my comfort zone and try new things and stop limiting myself. I was ecstatic when I heard the news that I'd won my position gaining the most votes against all the other people that campaigned for positions (including the President) lol!! And from that day it taught me a valuable lesson, "You're only as good as you allow yourself to be."

On the "hairy-er" side (lmao) I am currently 14 weeks post-relaxer and I HATE IT!!!! I want to relax soooo bad!!!! but I am determined to reach my goal of 16 weeks so I mean, two more weeks won't hurt....Right? I will definitely give an update on my hair after I have my relaxer but how I'm doing it is a mystery. I am trying to determine whether I should do my relaxer personally or if I should get it professionally done. My mom keeps saying that "You can't see the back of your head that's why you should go to a professional" (because she's afraid to relax it at home...lol) but my fear is that my stylist would attempt to be "more professional" than she already is. Am I paranoid? Don't be afraid to let me know your opinion on the topic.

Anyways, that's my update on my life so far since I've been gone for so long and now it's back to studying :( I hope that I can be back soon learning form you and your blogs as you do from mines.

Missed me? Because...I missed you! =)

Wow! I am neglecting my blogger duties! Shame on me! I am deeply and truly sorry you all. I've been really busy with balancing school and my personal life that I had to put this on hold for a while. As many would know Trinidad and Tobago celebrated Carnival at the end of February and so being a very patriotic citizen I played my part parading on the nation's streets to Soca, Calypso and Steelpan. It was the ultimate experience! And now exams is slowly approaching and well the stress of it all is also becoming over-powering with the rush of getting projects done and studying....

...But onto a more stress free topic =)

Rememer my decision to stretch my relaxer? Well I am currently 9 weeks post relaxer ( this Wednesday 14th March will make it 10 weeks) and my God have my hair grown! I continue to follow my hair regimen with the use of the same products which have helped a lot to not only moisturise but also strenghten my hair. I finger comb my hair instead of combing it out and that has helped a lot in preventing breakage! My goal at the moment is to stretch for at least 16 to 17 weeks and this is the FIRST time that I'm doing a stretch of so long so I'm being very observant, patient and gentle with my hair.

My head tie and silk bonnet have become my best friends. I don't sleep without them and sometimes I want to where them all day, err'day! I massage my hair every night after my ritual of moisturising and sealing and I am very proud of my results thus far. =) Just a couple more weeks to go!

Classy & Casual

Hey bloggers!!!

Firstly I'm coming with an apology. I'm sorry I haven't posted an update in a while. I've been stocked with work and need some time to get on top of everything. However, I have DO have updates to post and PRODUCT REVIEWS!!! =)

But as for now....

This is a little insight on my favs and interests. I absolutely LOVE and ADORE art. From music to nail art, dance to room decor, fashion to photography...I love them all. To me art is a way for one to express his or herself in their own personal way. A person's fashion sense and taste in music can determine a lot about a person and this is my way of showing what I'm into and my personality.

I am definitely a fan of vintage inspired fashion and this collage was created by me at 2:00 am this morning (^_^)

Tangled Much?!?!: For all hair types.

Many of will not believe....but 70% hair damage occurs in the shower. You know that process when your hair is wet and you just pass your comb through your luxurious locks? Yuuup.....that's the one I'm talking about. Wet hair is extremely fragile and combing through your "crown and glory" at this particular time will eventually leave you with damaged, broken hair. Detangling hair is a skill we all can adopt! =) Here are some helpful methods to detangle both natural or chemically treated hair.

The number one use of the comb in the bathroom is to apply conditioners and shampoos evenly throughout the hair, covering the surface entirely. A soothing and safer method you can use is eliminating the comb entirely and gently massaging your hair whilst in the shower is one of the best ways to prevent breakage also providing great shampoo and conditioner coverage....a win win situation! Detangling thoroughly wet hair is like walking up to a robber and handing your money over.....you just don't do it! The best way to detangle hair before it is dry is to air dry until damp and a leave in conditioner or detangling serum of your choice, section and detangle.

Your hair is a part of your identity and a woman's beauty. We are all bless with beautiful hair of all types and it is our duty to take care of our hair.

These are a few examples of great combs than can be used to detangle both natural and relaxed hair.

Rubber band Method: Stretching My Relaxer.

For those who don't know, stretching your relaxers is just another term for postponing your relax date or extending your relaxer. I have decided to extend my relaxer until the first Saturday in April. My last relaxer was January 4th and my hair is growing extremely fast. This is the longest stretch I've ever been on and  I am following my hair regimen religiously, excited to see just how much growth I will achieve at the end. Stretching your relaxer is one of the best ways to promote hair growth, it allows your hair to grow without the effect of the "every six week relaxer" stress. Relaxer weakens the hair and makes it more vulnerable to breakage and shedding, although after 6 weeks it is recommended by hair stylists to get a relaxer (and no time before) your hair can still suffer from breakage. If this is your first time stretching your relaxer you should begin by extending weeks at a time, for example 7 weeks to 10 weeks to 12 weeks. This allows you to be able to "master the technique of taking care of your new growth" (lol). I mean what's the sense of a stretch if you're unable to take care of new growth. New growth can affect your hair positively and negatively. If you take care of your new growth, moisturizing and conditioning them frequently you are sure to reap positive rewards. However if your new growth is dry tons of breakage can occur leading to unsatisfactory results.
So are you ready?!?
Hair Regimen....CHECK!.....moisturizers and oils....CHECK!....deep conditioners.....CHECK!
Let the stretching begin!....Good Luck =)

From Root to Tip: Everything you need to know about my hair and my current Hair Regimen

This is all the information about my hair and how I take care of it. I will update it over time with any changes.

The Past:
My first relaxer was in February 2009 and honestly that the biggest mistake I ever made. I obviously did not know how to take care of my hair and it broke terribly. I was very uneducated on this topic and used close to no hair products! Later that year I transitioned to my natural hair and learnt how to manage my hair, that process went extremely well and my hair was strong, thick and healthy. On January of 2011 I began to contemplate on relaxing again and began my research....told you I Googled everything (lol).

New Beginning:
After accumulating all the information on the pros and cons of relaxed hair, the products that would be necessary to maintain healthy, strong, growing chemically treated hair, I came to my final decision on July of 2012. I purchased my hair products before hand (the ones I got excellent reviews on and decided on trying) and then visited my hair stylist. Relaxing was a decision based mainly on manageability and time consumption. It took alot of time for me to maintain my natural hair because of how thick my hair is. So far, presently, I have a hair regimen in place that seems to be working leaving my hair moisturized and growing.

My Hair Type:
4a

My Current Hair Length:

Shoulder Length

My Hair Goal :

Product Review: Profective Growth & Repair Oil Free Serum

Ok so I was performing my daily hair routine today and I noticed that my hair has definitely grown out and is alot softer than it use to be....excitementsss!!!!! I, however cannot take all the credit for such accomplishments so I hereby thank Profectiv Growth & Repair Oil Free Serum for its  awesome results! Now I did not know about this product and before I try new products I usually Google it (yuuup I Google EVERYTHING), but I just happened to come across this product while looking for a hair oil and decided to try it out, also on purchasing the product when I did actually get to Google this I found nothing, not even from my favorite hair gurus, so I was completely alone . Now this is Oil Free so to me it's like a moisturizer and its water based too so that's a plus in my book! ;) On the first trial my hair felt alot softer and 48 hours later, still moisturised. I was extremely pleased (^_^). Approximately one week later I noticed alot of new growth. I have been using this product for 1 month now and  I use it with my Motions leave in conditioner and seal it with my coconut oil daily, or as desired, and apparently this method worked for me. The BONUS however is the effect this had on my new growth. My hair is very thick and dry so breakage occurs very easily....and well, it's SOFT NOW! You can't imagine how grateful I am! Combing my hair is less depressing because I'm not no longer shedding. My plan is to go 12 weeks without a relaxer and I was having my doubts at first but today I grew really confident after noticing my results. Do not be discouraged by the presentation of this product though, it is in fact for all hair types so have a try if you are in the process of growing your hair and tell me your opinion on it. And if you have tried this product already, what are your views? Did you like it as much as I did?

Product Review: Organic Root Stimulator Deep Penetrating Conditioner

Ok...well this is my first time trying this product and I must say....I like it alot! I purchased the Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil Replenishing Pak Deep Penetrating Conditioner as a means of a tester result to see if I would actually like the product. I have used other ORS products before but this is my first time using the Deep Conditioner from this particular brand. First off the smell is amazing and to many people including me this is important. It has a sweet, pleasant citrus smell that is not over powering. Another characteristic is the product's consistency. Thin, liquidity conditioners tend to drip everywhere conditioning everything else but the hair! This product is thick in consistency and applies wonderfully and thoroughly through the hair. After rinsing my hair felt very soft and moisturized -and i have very dry hair so I am extremely pleased with this feature particularly. I am tempted to continue to use this product again in coordination with my other deep conditioner. If you haven't tried this product I recommend that you pick up this replenishing pak as a trial attempt. I guarantee that you would be left as pleased as I am. =)

Ingredients:
Water Aqua, Soybean Oil Glycine Soja, Glycerine, Olive Oil Olea Europaea, Hydrolyzed Collagen , Quaternium-80 , DMDM Hydantoin, Amino Silk Acid, Dimethicone Copolyol, Orange Oil Citrus Aupantium Dulcis, D'Limonene , Panthenol Vitamin B5, Dimethicone , EDTA, Chamomile Extract Anthemis Nobilis, Sage Extract Salvia Officinalis, Nettle Extract Urtica Dioica, Rosemary Extract Rosmarinus Officinalis , Aloe Vera Gel Aloe Barbedensis , Yarrow Extract Achilea Millefolium, Kiwi Extract Actinidia Chinensis, Polyquaternium-37, Trideceth-7, Triethanolamine, Hydrolyzed Glycosaminoglycans, Methylchlorosothiazolinone , Methylchlorothiazolinone, Yellow No. 6 CI 15985, Yellow No. 5 CI 19140

The Coconut Oil Revolution

Turn up the Caribbean music because this has to be one of my favorite hair products....I MUST SAY! I found out a couple months ago that coconut oil does wonders to the hair and went out and bought myself a bottle of Pure Coconut Oil. My hair was grateful. Approximately 24 hours after applying it to my scalp and hair I felt the difference in the texture and I noticed less breakage while performing manipulation tasks (combing, braid outs, etc). It immediately earned a spot on my "Favorite Hair Products List."

The reason for the use of Pure Coconut Oil was because I did not want any additives in the product and desired the full effect of the product in its original state.  However, I did decide to purchase a Coconut Oil that is not so"pure" and that is the Organic Root Stimulator Coconut Oil. For a long time I have heard of positive results on this product and the ORS brand is one that I do trust. Although the results were good, to me this product did not work as well as I desired and so I  often co-ordinate it with the Pure Coconut Oil in my hair care routine.

I'm sure many are curious as to how coconut oil helps the hair. It is found that this particular oil is the ONLY oil that reduces protein loss - because of the lauric acid it contains- rejuvenating damaged hair protecting  undamaged hair. It strengthens the hair, reduces shedding and promotes hair growth by penetrating the hair from inside the hair shaft! Oh and depending on your supplier it's very inexpensive too! Can't get any better than that! :) You can include this oil in your deep conditioners and do hot oil treatments with it as a means to strengthen the hair faster.

Regenerate your damaged hair or prevent future damage with nature's gifts and include it in your hair regimen for strong, healthy, long hair. (^_^)

Let's Get Acquainted!

Hi there! I have to say I find it strange that I'm feeling nervous doing this O.o I'll begin with saying that this blog is basically about my hair journey and its progress and failures. I decided to begin my hair journey on the 2nd of  February 2012 and this is my means of recording the events. I do not know everything and I am ready and eager to learn from you as well as share my knowledge on Hair Health. Hopefully I can help you along your journey too. Along with hair I would be often engae "chit chat" about fashion, cosmetics, music, books and movies to spice up the entertainment a little.

The name VintageFashionAmour is a collection of some of my famourite things. I am in absolute love with VINTAGE!!! =) Vintage decor, fashion, paintings, buildings....BEA-UTIFUL (^_^). Fashion is another thing I adore simply because it amazes me the ways in which people can tell a story of themselves through their fashion sense. Such an inspiration :) And lastly....Amour...the French word for "Love." I love French....if only i could speak it (ha). France is actually on my "places I want to visit in my lifetime" list...its such a romantic and breath-taking place. I hope this gives a slight insight on who I am...a little introduction for my new community.
